This second edition holds useful examples of individual and group reflective practice strategies. A great resource for veteran teachers, newer teachers, preservice students and universities supporting teacher development, and those in other fields interested in professional development work. Reflective Practice: Creating Capacities for School Improvementby J. Montie, J. York-Barr, and R. Kronberg (1998) is a spiral bound resource guide for K-12 educators who create school communities in which reflective practice is used to foster school improvement and support teaching practices that effectively reach all students.

Jane Addams Peace Association
The Jane Addams Children’s Book Award web site contains history about this book award that names exemplary picture books and books for older children addressing issues of peace, justice, bias, friendship and world community. The web site describes recent award books and offers a printable list of the books that have received this annual award since 1953.
Teaching Tolerance
Although geared toward teachers, Teaching Tolerance publications are recommended for anyone concerned about children/youth and committed to a just, inclusive, hate-free world. Teaching Tolerance, supported by the Southern Poverty Law Center, has an outstanding free online newsletter and a bi-annual periodical loaded with useful strategies about ways to address bias and prejudice, and teach compassion and fairness.
Insitute on Community Integration
The University of Minnesota’s Institute on Community Integration web site highlights resources and research aimed at improving the lives of persons with disabilities and their families. Resources address the lifespan: there are resources related to early childhood, school-age, transitioning from high school to the next environments, and adult services and community living. To get started, peruse the website and also sign up to receive the top-notch quarterly publication Impact.
Human Rights Resource Center
This fabulous site from the University of Minnesota’s Human Rights Resource Center digs into curriculum and concepts pertaining to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and human rights education. On the web site home page be sure to also click onto the “Peace and Human Rights Store” to see and order online resources, and the “This Is My Home” logo to enter into an extensive, online resource that focuses on k-12 human rights education with many concrete human rights lessons that align with the state standards.
Cooperative Childrens Book Center
The Cooperative Children’s Book Center (CCBC) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Education, is an exemplary study and research library that includes free bibliographies, extensive book lists on a range of topics and themes, and ways to network with others committed to quality children’s book literature.
